Department of Sustainable Rural Technologies
In 2013, Teso University will matriculate its first students in the Department of Sustainable Rural Technologies. Curriculum for this department, being developed in collaboration with faculty from U. Mass/Amherst and others, will emphasize economic and ecological sustainability, technology transfer and innovation. Pedagogy will emphasize problem-based, experiential learning in a community context, and students in the SRT program will work closely with farmers in the Agricultural Extension program.
Aquaculture Program:
Students in the SRT Department will learn how to analyze and manage a recirculating
aquaculture system (RAS) designed for the rural African setting, as an example of fairly complex technological husbandry as well as a potentially directly applicable skill. Please see researchers from U. Mass/Amherst describing the RAS on YouTube at the link below:
