Education and Community Development
Pilgrim Africa operates Beacon of Hope College, a boarding secondary school with 493 students in Soroti, Uganda. In 2011, Pilgrim Africa received a 350 acre land grant to educate teachers and agribusiness entrepreneurs; Teso University will matriculate its first students in 2013. Agricultural extension work is already well underway, with a vibrant program training farmer groups in post-harvest processing.
Public Health
A Malaria-Free Uganda
Uganda has upwards of 100,000 malaria-related deaths each year. Pilgrim Africa, an implementing partner for Global Fund Round 10 funding for malaria control in 2012, is working in partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Health on a national scale-up of malaria control interventions, capable of reducing malaria incidence by as much as 90%.
